WINCHESTER -- A veterinarian faces charges of neglecting more than a dozen horses she owns. The Winchester Star reports that Gwendolyn Pfouts was charged yeseterday with 18 counts of animal cruelty. The criminal charges came on the same day a hearing was held in General District Court on the confiscation of 18 horses from Pfouts' home by Frederick County authorities. County animal control officers and an equine veterinarian testified that Pfouts' horses were malnourished, improperly kept, and had untreated health problems.
