Defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion Philip Morris of Ruckersville and Jonathan Cast of Oxford, NC. split the pair of 75 lap NASCAR All-American Series races that highlighted the Mom's Night Out racing program oat South Boston Speedway Saturday night, May 9.
Morris started on the pole and led all the way in the first of the night's twin LMS Division races. In the nightcap, Morris also qualified on the pole but started sixth in the inverted line up for the top six qualifiers and finished second behind Cash who gave car owner, Sandy Stigall of Roxboro, NC. his first win at South Boston Speedway in almost 10 years.
The win in the first race gave Morris his third win of the season at South Boston Speedway. With his victory in the nightcap, Cash became the fifth different winner in the LMS Division this season at South Boston Speedway.
Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C., finished second behind Morris is the first race with Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, N.C., Josh Oakley of Roughemont, N.C., and David Quackenbush of Lorton, Va. rounded out the top five finishers. Morris' margin of victory over Johnson was .504.
The second LMS Division race was one of the more exciting races of the seasons. Six caution flags were thrown and two drives were penalized in the first 30 laps. Five different drivers led the race with Michael Hardin, Morris and Cash staging a torrid battle for the lead for much of the race. Cash was fresher tires took the lead from Morris with 16 laps remaining and sped away to a 1.655 second win over the defending national champion. Lee Pullian of Semora, N.C. finished third, Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. finished fourth and Justin Johnson rounded out the top five finishers in the nightcap.
