The Greene County Fair Board’s annual meeting will be held at 7p.m on March 11 at Ruckersville Elementary School. All citizens are welcome and may address the board with any questions, concerns or suggestions for the fair.
All Greene County pastors are invited to the monthly meeting of the Greene County Ministerial Association (GCMA) held at the Blue Ridge Café (Dutch treat) in Ruckersville the second Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon. Enjoy a fellowship luncheon together, encourage each other and discuss plans for annual events. Please attend and bring your ideas for community service. For more information, please contact Rev. Ruckersville Elementary School will be having a Bake Sale on March 13 from 7-12p.m. at Burger King in Ruckersville. Proceeds will go towards the RES Fun Club!!!

The Madison- Greene Humane Society and Dr. John Hayes will host a Drive-Thru Rabies Shot Clinic on Saturday, March 13 from 10:30AM until noon in the parking lot of the Greene County VoTech Center off Route 33 in Stanardsville. Shots cost $10.00. This is an outdoor, drive-thru clinic. Pets and owners remain in their cars but all pets should be on a leash or in a crate to prevent animals from becoming frightened and running away. Protect your family and your family pets by having all cats and dogs vaccinated against rabies.

The Greene Express AAU Girls Basketball program will hold tryouts on Sunday, March 14, 4:30-6:00pm, at the William Monroe Middle School gym in Stanardsville. Girls from all schools in the area are welcome. The program is looking to fill teams ranging in ages 9 through 16 - determined by age on January 1, 2010. Greene County Rescue Squad presents a Bluegrass Concert with Dailey & Vincent, Sunday, March 14 at 3p.m at William Monroe High School. Tickets are $15. For more information call 434-996-8441.
March 15
The Ruckersville Community Cemetery Association Board of Directors will meet Monday, March 15th at 7p.m at the Ruckersville Baptist Church. Clean up date is Saturday, March 20. All Christmas flowers to be removed by this date.
STAR will hold is annual meeting on Monday, March 15 at 7p.m in the Town Hall, 19 Celt Road. All supporters of *STAR* are invited to attend. Full voting members of STAR will elect a new Board Members at that time, and the Board of Directors will meet immediately following the elect officers if the organization. The annual meeting will include an update on the status of the pending Streetscape Enhancement project and discuss additional grants that STAR intends to apply for at both VDOT and the Department of Housing and Community Development. March 16
On January 12th, 2010 Haiti was devastated by a catastrophic earthquake affecting more than three million people. In an effort to offer assistance Hannah Rees a first grade student at Greene County Primary School has coordinated a fundraiser. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to help the citizens of Haiti. On Tuesday March 16th, Greene County Primary School will be having its “Hats on for Haiti” fundraising event. Students are invited to show their support for Haiti by donating a monetary amount of their choice. In return for their donation students will be permitted to wear a hat for the entire school day and show their support for the Haitian people.

Support the work of the Madison-Greene Humane Society by becoming a sponsor or player – or both – in the 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, March 29. This Captain’s Choice event will be held at the Greene Hills Country Club and includes luncheon, green fees and cart rental. A raffle will be held during the event. March 17
The Spotswood Trail Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at the Rescue Squad building at 12:30 p.m. Jeannie Turner, a master judge and member of the Shenandoah Designer's Guild, will present a program on her specialty, Miniature Designs. Guest and new members are always welcome.

The Food Pantry of Greene County monthly supplemental food for USDA-qualified families is distributed at Stanardsville Baptist Church from 4 to 6 p.m. each third Wednesday. Open on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon for emergency food distribution, accept applications for monthly distribution of food, or to accept non-perishable donations. The Pantry is located in the left lower level of Stanardsville Baptist Church, 103 Madison Road, Door No. 6. The Greene Co. Republican Committee is sponsoring their continuation of the 5th district congressional candidate “Meet & Greets”. This is your chance to be up close and personal with the possible candidates. Tues. March 9th, Jim McKelvey will be the focus. Tues. March 23rd Feda Morton will make her appearance. The venue will be in the lounge of the Blue Ridge Café in Ruckersville at 6pm. These events are open to the public and will be a regular forum for the next three months. The first annual Greene County Arts Festival will be held on Saturday, March 20 from 10-5p.m. at William Monroe High School. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend. Student artwork from every public school in Greene County will be exhibited in the gym with musical and drama performances throughout the day in the performing arts center. Featuring “A Bushel and a Peck,” “Luck Be a Lady,” “If I Were a Bell,” “Rockin’ the Boat,” and many more, Guys and Dolls Junior will delight audiences everywhere! Performance Dates: March 26 & 27. March 27
A Spring Fling/Bone Marrow Donation Drive will be held on Saturday March 27th from 1-4p.m at Spring Hill Baptist Church. There will be Easter egg hunts, moon bounces, games, entertainment and lots more. For more information contact William Monroe Middle School. www.holdmyhandforlife.org

Four Seasons is hosting a Casino Night for Greene County Habitat on March 27th from 7-10pm. There will be all of the usual casino type games available and we'll be providing snacks, entertainment and a complimentary gift bag. A $25 donation will pay for one person to receive a drink, 5,000 Habitat bucks and eligibility for door prize drawings. A 50/50 drawing and silent auction will also be available. The event is being held at the beautiful Four Seasons clubhouse in Ruckersville. No tickets will be sold at the door so if you're interested, contact someone from the Greene County Habitat chapter right away or reply to this email. Ticket sales will be limited to 250 people, however, so contact us soon before the event is sold out.

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers and teams for the first Relay For Life® in Greene County. Organizers are holding a meeting from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. on March 29 at the Greene County Library to introduce the American Cancer Society services and events to residents. Greene County School registration begins March 24 for Greene County Primary School and April 15 for Ruckersville Elementary School, both from 3:45-6:45p.m. Bring your child, his/her original birth certificate, and his/her social security card to the school in your district. This year each parent or guardian is also required to bring a proof of residence (driver’s license, rent or lease agreement signed affidavit by residing party.) Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 30th, 2010.

Skyline CAP Head Start is a preschool program for 3 to 5 year old children. Applications for the 2010-2011 school year are now being accepted. Children must have turned 3 years of age by September 30, 2010. Children with special needs are encouraged to apply. Skyline CAP Head Start is a free program for income eligible families. During the month of March, the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of hot & cold cereals, pancake mixes, syrups, and juices. (Please, no expired foods.) Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations for the food bank can be mailed to the Womans Club of Greene County, PO Box 352, Stanardsville, VA 22973. The Greene County Fair Board is researching the history of the Greene County Fair. If anyone has information or pictures of earlier fairs held prior to 1980, pleas send that information to Greene County Fair, PO Box 153, Stanardsville, Va, 22973

The Greene County Rescue Squad is offering an EMT basic training class which started February 16 and will end in early June. The class will meet on Tuesday’s and Thursday evenings from 7-10p.m and occasionally on Saturday mornings. Healthcare provider CPR is required, but the squad will assist you with obtaining this certificate. There is no obligation to join the squad, however those who do will be reimbursed for the cost of the class. The Shelter for Help in Emergency is seeking women and men from all walks of life to participate in their Spring 2010 Volunteer Training. Volunteers are needed to serve on the hotline as well as managers, court monitors, children’s program assistants and interpreters. Submit a new theme with an accompanying logo we can use on the fair T-shirts, fair booklets, etc. Recognition will be in the Greene County Record, and at the Greene County Fair along with a $50 prize. The Greene County Library invites you to join the Rapunzels.
Come and read and discuss great books. This group is for girls ages 9 to 13.
The meetings will be held in the library meeting room on the third Thursday afternoon of each month at 3:30 pm. March 18- The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. *Ten year old Mary comes to live in a lonely house on the Yorkshire moors and discovers an invalid cousin and the mysteries of a locked garden*

Narcotics Anonymous meetings are on Mondays at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church located on Rt. 810 at 7p.m.

The Virginia Employment Commission will be helping people seeking a job.
Each Thursday at the Greene County Library a Workforce Services representative will be available to work with individuals to provide the following services: career explorations, job search assistance, resume writing, interview skills. No appointments are necessary and walk-ins are always welcome.
These free services are available every Thursday from 12:30 to 4:30p.m.
