A Ruckersville man faces multiple charges following an incident with his motorcycle that injured a state trooper in Page County.
Christopher Timberlake, 25, of Ruckersville, was charged with three felonies: eluding police, driving on a suspended license after being convicted of a DUI, and hit and run.
Timberlake also faces the following charges: reckless driving, reckless driving by speed, resisting arrest, driving with no motorcycle license, operating a vehicle with no valid registration and operating an uninsured vehicle.
According to Virginia State Police, Trooper T.A. Fox was on patrol on Sunday afternoon, June 21, when he observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed. Fox attempted to stop the motorcycle, but it got away, taking off down Route 340 near the town of Luray. About 20 minutes later, Fox observed the motorcycle again, this time off Route 211 near Luray.
"Before he could initiate pursuit, the motorcycle took off again at a high rate of speed, going eastbound," said Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler.
During the chase, police say the motorcycle and trooper went into a curve. As Fox came around the curve, "he observed Timberlake standing next to a guardrail to the left and the motorcycle was in the middle of the road," said Tyler. Fox cut to the right, crashing into the bike to avoid striking Timberlake.
The trooper's vehicle wound up in the median of Route 211. At that point, police say Timberlake took off on foot, crossing the westbound lanes of 211 and ducking behind nearby residences. He was later apprehended by Trooper D.A. Mauck.
Fox was transported to the nearest medical center and released later that day. Timberlake was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he was treated and released on Tuesday.
He was arrested on Wednesday, June 24. According to Page County authorities, he is released on bond.
