Is it the end of the road for county's Dental Clinic?

The future of the long-established Greene County Dental Clinic is uncertain.
Just when the Board of Supervisors was evaluating that future a couple of weeks ago, clinic dentist Dr. Edward Russo resigned his position, reportedly to pursue a teaching opportunity.
Now Chairman of the Board Steve Catalano will say only: "All options are on the table, including privatization."
In the meantime, according to reports, all appointments have been cancelled.
Stanardsville resident Ann Mullen is concerned that the clinic might be at its end.
"If it is," Mullen says, "it's the community that's going to lose."
Currently, staff reports that the clinic services approximately 2,000 clients, 44 percent of whom are non-insured.
According to reports, many clinic patients come from the county's schools, where nearly 1,000 students qualify for free dental work.
The clinic, which has been a part of Greene for 40 years, has been at its present location in the County Administration Building, for an estimated 25 years. Russo was dentist there for the last 10 years.
