"My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both," Proverbs 24:21-22.
The Book of Proverbs is the book of wisdom. It enables us to make wise decisions, for decisions always have conscience. In examining our text verse, we note that the fear of the Lord comes before the fear of the king. In other words, our trust should be in the Lord first and then the king. Our Lord will never fail is, but government may.
In our Pledge of Allegiance, we recite "one nation under God", also on all of our currency is inscribed "In God We Trust." Now there are some that are "given to change" as our text verse indicates. The change that some desire is to put the king or government first and not be one nation under God nor have the one God in whom we trust.
Note our text verse states that those who are given to change (those who speak to replace God with the king or government) that "their calamity shall rise suddenly: and who knoweth the ruin of them both." When both the people and their government do not want the Lord to be first, both are on the way to ruin.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord," Psalm 33:12. The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God," Psalm 9:17.
