Preschool Story Time at the Greene Library. Thursdays, March 12-April 30, 10:30am. Ages 2-5. Books, flannel stories, songs and finger plays. Each week's story time concludes with a simple craft that your child can make and take home. Siblings are welcome. No registration required. Story time will include an Egg Hunt on April 9!

April 2
All Greene County pastors are invited to the monthly meeting of the Greene County Ministerial Association (GCMA) held at the Blue Ridge Café (Dutch Treat) in Ruckersville the first Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon. Enjoy a fellowship luncheon together, encourage each other, and make plans for the National Day of Prayer the first Thursday in May, and the Greene County Church Softball League. Greene Library Book Discussion Group, Thursday 7 pm. Book Discussion Group. Washington Square by Henry James. Story of a stubborn father, a plain heiress, and the poor, handsome suitor who may or may not love her only for her wealth.

The Montpelier Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11am at Gordonsville United Methodist Church for a luncheon meeting. The guest speaker will be Bana Weems Caskey. A $15 luncheon reservation check needs to be received by the Chapter Treasurer.

Ruckersville Elementary Registration is April 2, 3:45-6:45pm. Bring your child, his/her original birth certificate, and his\/her social security card to the school in your district. (Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 30th 2009.) For more information please call: RES: 985-1472.

April 4
The Miss Greene County Contest will be held at the William Monroe Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm. Applications for the Miss Greene Contest can be obtained by Mrs. Dana Hodges at the High School. Any boy or girl interested in the Little Miss or Mister Greene Contest can pick there applications up at their school.

Earlysville Arts and Craft Show! Saturday, April 4 from 9am-4pm at the Earlysville Volunteer Fire Co. in the rear off the building on Reas Ford Road off Earlysville Road. Free Admission. Ample parking. Come enjoy the day with us. Proceeds benefit the Earlysville Fire Department.

Spring Fling - a Community Easter Egg Hunt with 10,000 candy filled Easter eggs will be held April 4th from Noon until 2 p.m at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome and the candy, games, moon bounces, food, face painting and entertainment are all FREE! The Egg Bring your basket and share an afternoon of fun! Parks & Rec hosts its sixth annual Eggstravaganza Easter egg hunt at the Community Park. 3:30 p.m. on April 4 FREE. Come and enjoy the fun!

Pine Ridge Church of the Brethren Ladies Auxiliary will be having a bake sale on Saturday, April 4 from 9-3pm at Burger King in Ruckersville. Homemade cakes, pies, etc.

April 6
Battle of Stanardsville will be meeting on Monday, April 6 at 7:00 in the EDA office (above the Bank of America) in Stanardsville. Volunteers needed. Call 985-2660. The meeting is open to anyone interested in planning the event for 2009

April 8
CHIP (Coronary Health Improvement Program) Association of Orange will be sponsoring an Organic Gardening Class on Wednesday, April 8, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The host sponsoring this free class is the local Orange Seventh-day Adventist Church. The meeting will be held at the Train Depot in Orange on Main Street. A master gardener volunteer from Charlottesville will be presenting the class with assistance from local gardeners. Please call to reserve your spot at 540-672-1150

The Book Babes, Wednesday's, April 15 and May 20 at 3:30pm. Join us as we yak about books and share a pizza! Pick up your own copy of the book at the Greene County Library anytime before the meeting. First come first served to get a free copy of the book, Open to teen girls ages 14 and up.

National Health Care Decisions Day - When the time comes to name someone to speak for you in case of a serious illness or accident - will you be ready? Dr. Lisa Illig, Associate Medical Director for Hospice of the Piedmont, will be presenting a talk on Advance Directives to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision making. April 25
Stanardsville United Methodist Church will host an all night sleep out/canned food drive starting at 7:30p.m. The food drive will help to benefit the local greene county food banks and is being held in order to bring awareness of the plight of homelessness and hunger in the local community. This a mission project for the children's ministries of SUMC. For more information contact 985-3888. All of the community is encouraged to drive by and drop off canned food items from 7:30-11:30p.m. on Saturday night.

May 2

Annual car show at Spring Hill Baptist Church will take place Saturday, May 2, 10am-2pm. Church location: 2620 Frays Mill Road. This fun, family friendly event benefits missions at the church. See you there!

May 4
Benefit Golf Tournament for Blue Ridge Heat Girls Fastpitch. BRH is a local non-profit organization and will be holding a fundraiser on May 4th at Lakeview Golf Course located just 20 minutes west of Stanardsville. All proceeds will go towards the teams tournament entry fees and equipment for the 2009 season. There will be a large silent auction, 50/50 raffle, prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, option to buy Mulligans and chance to win a new car with a hole in one shot. Tournament is at 11:00a.m. Shotgun start and Captain's choice play. Come out and enjoy a great day of golf while helping to support this fastpitch team! JABA's Greene County Community Center is holding a Flea Market Fundraiser from 8am to noon in the upper parking lot behind the JABA/Library building and the Lafayette Hotel just off Main Street in Stanardsville. The Backyard Baseball Team will be hosting their 2nd Annual golf tournament at Greene Hills Country Club on Monday May 18th. The Benefit Captains Choice Tournament will "shotgun" start at 1:00 pm. The Food Pantry of Greene, Stanardsville Baptist Church food program, continues to receive donations for the Souper Bowl drive and in memory of Delbert Frey. During the month of April, the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of canned vegetables and canned fruits.
