LIBRARY MATTERS

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Now that you have spent much of your summer reading those great 'summer reads' perhaps you would like to learn more about the books and their authors.
The Greene County Library's online database Literature Resource Center (LRC) www.jmrl.org/on-databases.htm provides access to biographies and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline. Combining Gale Publishing Company's most used literary databases this resource covers more than 130,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists and other writers. Its coverage includes all genres, all time periods, and all regions of the world.
In Literature Resource Center, you'll find:
Literature Criticism: Full-text scholarly articles from more than 300 academic journals and literary magazines - as well as excerpts from scholarly monographs, literary correspondence and diaries.
Reviews & News: Reviews of books of all sorts, from children's literature to adult fiction, from popular non-fiction to scholarly studies.
Biographies: Substantive biographical essays on authors, providing insights into life and times, works, and critical reception.
Primary Sources/Literary Works: Full text of thousands of poems and short stories published in contemporary journals and magazines.
Topic and Work Overviews: Overview essays on thousands of books and literary topics.
Multimedia: Links to editorially selected websites on authors and their works, as well as pictures of well-known authors.
For those of you who have seen the new movie "Brideshead Revisited," it might be interesting to check out this Evelyn Waugh book in LRC. There are over 40 items that discuss the book and give your background information to gain a deeper understanding of the movie.
There are lots of 'extras' that can be done with a document in LRC. You can print, email, or download your document, to generate a citation in MLA or APA format. There is also a link to create an automated translation in eight languages.
Literature Resource Center has a Person Search which is designed to create lists of individuals who fit a custom profile that you design. For instance, you could use the Ethnicity and Genre options to create a list of Hispanic-American poets or Native-American autobiographies.
Gale® is a world leader in e-research and educational publishing for libraries, schools and businesses. If you need help using Literature Resource Center, contact the Greene County Library at 985-5227.
