The Greene County Rescue Squad Cadets will be washing cars at the Clayton Homes yard sale this weekend from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cadets are young adults 16-18 who are interested in EMS and volunteer with the Greene County Rescue Squad. They would like to thank everyone who helped with their earlier car wash. Donations gratefully accepted.

Piedmont Landowners Association will meet June 30 at 7 p.m. at Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, Madison. The Virginia Department of Forestry will give an overview of forestry projects in the area. The Piedmont Landowners Association was formed by landowners in Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties who have an interest in stewardship of forests and farmland. During the month of June the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of peanut butter and jelly. Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations to the food bank can be mailed to the Woman's Club of Greene County, P.O. Applications for the 2008-2009 school year are now being accepted for the Skyline CAP Head Start program in Greene County, open to preschool children three to five years old. Children must have turned at least three years of age by Sept. 30. Those with special needs are encouraged to apply. Skyline CAP Head Start is a free program for income eligible families. It's that time of year again; time to start planning the annual July 4 parade sponsored by STAR. If you would like to volunteer or participate call Beth at 985-6226.
Friday morning, July 4, Better Living Inc., the Charlottesville Track Club and the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville will present the 25th annual Independence Day 5K Race at Forest Lakes North Subdivision. For the third straight year, proceeds will benefit Camp Holiday Trails, a camp for children with special health needs.
On July 4 after the July 4 parade, a Habitat for Humanity barbecue fundraiser will be held at Stanardsville United Methodist Church, 25 Court Street, across from the Courthouse, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come inside, cool off and purchase a lunch of homemade pork barbecue, baked beans, cole slaw, chips, beverage and dessert for $8 for adults; $4 for children two-six and for children under two, free. Strawberry slurpees will be available for $1.50. Tickets will be available at-the-door. Habitat's jump house will be available for the children to enjoy. Come help us build the next Habitat for Humanity house here in Greene County.

Solid Rock Full Gospel Church, 3580 Spotswood Trail, Barboursville, invites everyone to the Freedom Revival 2008 on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5 starting at 6 p.m. both evenings.
