The William Monroe High School varsity softball team will likely go as far in Jefferson District play this year as the team’s defense and the right arm of senior Taylor Collier can take them.

The Cadets (21-5) came into the game ranked third in the state, but fell behind early on and never quite got back in the game.

Last Saturday, the William Monroe High School indoor track team competed at the four-team Polar Bear Invitational in Louisa.

WMHS is now 5-12 overall and 3-6 in Jefferson District play.

The United Christian Academy girls basketball team, playing without shooting forward Brandy Estes and power forward Jacque Carroll, fell twice at the Faith Christian School New Year’s tournament in Fredericksburg.

Junior Chelsea Higgins and sophomore Jessica Crawford are two of the outstanding young athletes on the WMHS girls indoor track team. And both compete in multiple events.

The William Monroe varsity boys basketball has had an up and down season thus far for 09-10.

If you’re walking the halls of William Monroe High School after classes are done for the day you may get a glimpse of the Dragon indoor track team hard at work.

Playing back to back nights is tough in any stretch of a basketball season, but doing it in a tournament championship game following an overtime win can bring on exhaustion. The William Monroe varsity boy’s basketball team faced off against a very good Turner Ashby team for the hardware on December 29th.
