The varsity Dragons beat Broadway on a seventh- inning walk off home run by Eric Utz. The final score: 6-5.
Among the game highlights: Daniel Thacker threw 5 innings of 1-hit ball and kept the Gobblers off balance at the plate. Danny Morris started the scoring in the first with a home run to dead center field. The Dragons added another run when freshman catcher Logan Forloines hit his first home run of the season. Monroe picked up two more runs with a 2-RBI single by senior Jason Nave in the bottom of the third.
The Dragons gave back 3 runs in the sixth inning because of some poor defense. The Gobblers took the lead in the seventh inning 5-4. Kris Thomas led off the bottom half of the inning with a single. Danny Morris came up and hit a ground ball to third but hustled down the line and limited the Gobblers to one out. Utz then stepped up to the plate and launched a pitch over the right-centerfield fence! Matt Collier picked up the win.
The win improves the Dragons to 4-2 on the season. At Record press time on Tuesday, the Dragons were preparing to start district play, as they traveled to Charlottesville at 7pm.
