Editorial

You might notice a new name has been added to the masthead below this editorial.
As of today, I have been editor of the Greene County Record for one week. It’s a position that I assume with great respect.
I respect those who have edited this paper prior to my arrival dating all the way back to its founding in 1910.
I respect all of the reporters and freelancers who have contributed stories and photographs to this newspaper over the decades.
And most of all, I respect you, the readers of the Greene County Record. No matter who may own the newspaper or who may sit in the editor’s chair, this is your newspaper. It is a record of the life of the people of Greene County - people whose families have lived here for generations, people who have only recently arrived and people yet to come.
Each week I will have the privilege of helping to produce a newspaper that brings you not only the news of this county, but also important messages from advertisers, photographs of people of our area and the opinions of our columnists. As editor, I will also be sharing in this space going forward my opinion on important local issues. It is not a responsibility I take lightly.
Although I am new to this newspaper and to Greene County, my wife and I have lived in Virginia since 1995. I have 10 years of experience as a reporter, news editor, assistant managing editor and managing editor of the Culpeper Star-Exponent and Culpeper News. I understand the importance of the local newspaper to its readers—to be kept up to date about what is happening in your community through these pages.
It is my pledge that I will listen to what you have to say and do my best to continue to make the Greene County Record a newspaper that you can be proud of and that reflects this county.
We welcome your contributions through letters to the editor, articles and photos about area events. With a small staff, we can’t be everywhere, but you can help us make sure readers are informed of activities that are important to you.
Feel free to e-mail me at:
or call me at 985-2815 with your comments and even your criticisms.
Together we can continue to make the Greene County Record your source for community news.

Mr Finefrock:
I am sure you will do a great job. Just keep The Record an open (fair) and enlightening source of news and commentary for the community is all anyone would ask.
I was only a reporter for The Record a short time under editor Chris Brasted (1992) before I went back to school, but those were great days in the community and well-remembered.
Sincerely,
Douglas Peters, JD, RN
