Deeds, Wagner win local voters in Primary

The Stanardsville seat on the County’s Board of Supervisors appears to be the only local position contested heading into this fall’s election.
Deadline for filing was June 9.
On June 10, Greene Registrar Sandra Shifflett announced, “The two candidates for Stanardsville supervisor are (Incumbent) Clarence “Buggs” Peyton and (Challenger) William “Bill” Martin.
James F. “Jim” Frydl of Ruckersville is the only candidate for supervisor in the Ruckersville. The seat was made available by Supervisor Jeri Allen’s announcement last month that she will not be seeking reelection.
Incumbents Jason K. Collier of Stanardsville and A. Michelle Flynn of Ruckersville are running unopposed, each for a second term on the County’s School Board.
On the state level: Delegate Robert “Rob” Bell (R-Charlottesville) is being challenged by Cynthia Neff (D-Charlottesville).
At the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention, held May 29-30 at the Richmond Convention Center: Attorney General Bob McDonnell was nominated as candidate for governor; Lt. Governor Bill Bolling was nominated to run again for office; and, Senator Ken Cuccinelli of Fairfax County is the Republican candidate for attorney general.
Unofficial results of the Democratic Party’s June 9 Primary, show that R. Creigh Deeds of Charlottesville is that party’s candidate for governor; Jody M. Wagner of Virginia Beach is its candidate for lieutenant governor; and, Stephen C. Shannon of Vienna is the Democratic candidate for attorney general.
In Greene, R. Creigh Deeds won 297 votes. challenger Terry McAulifffe had 60 votes and Brian Moran had 50.
In Greene, Wagner had 188, challenger A Michael Signer had 135 and John Bowerbank had 20.
The general election is November 3. Shifflett reminds all Greene County residents that her office is open every Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. “if anyone needs to register to vote.“
She says that her office has already getting ready for the November election, and that it is “looking forward to a great turnout.“
