Gov. Tim Kaine signed a bill by Del. Rob Bell ( R-58th District)  this week to name the bridge over the Rapidan River on Route 29 the “Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge in Honor of Adam J. Fargo and Edwin A. Andino.”
The bridge crosses the Rapidan River, which joins Greene County and Madison County.
Corporal Adam Fargo, a Greene County resident ,was killed in Iraq on July 22, 2006. Private First Class Edwin “EJ” Andino of Madison was killed in Iraq on September 3, 2006.
“We have two young men from our community who gave their lives back in 2006 in the war in Iraq,” said Bell in a phone interview this week. “ This seemed like an appropriate way to honor what they did, with the bridge that connects the two communities.”
Now that Gov. Kaine has signed the bill, the next step is to raise private funds to set up the bridge sign, which Bell hopes to complete by late summer or early fall.
The naming does not affect prior designations of the bridge.
