November 20
Starting on Friday, there will be Southern Gospel music and singing by Mike Upright. On the following dates: Solid Rock Church (Nov. 20) Grace Baptist Church (Nov. 21) Mountain View United Methodist (Nov. 22) and Nortonsville Church of God (Nov.22) Admission is free.
November 21
The Stanardsville United Methodist church youth ministries will be host to an indoor yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to1p.m. .The church is located across from the court house. Rain or shine.
Emmanuel Christian Center will be having a Youth Jam on Saturday at 6 p.m.. Various youth groups will be Jammin’ for Jesus together. Come out and enjoy the fellowship. Emmanuel Christian Center is located at 14343 Spotswood Trail in Ruckersville.
Thanksgiving Baskets Food Drive, Nov. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m.. Canned and dry goods will be collected for families in need in our communities. You may drop off your items at the Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Center, 15044 Ryland Chapel Road., Rixeyville on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.. The Greene County Ministerial Association is hosting its Annual Thanksgiving Community Service — Music and Thanksgiving — at Grace Episcopal Church at 97 Main St., Stanardsville, on Sunday, at 7 p.m. The offering will again go to GRACE for its outreach ministries. 18th Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Nov. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church on Ford Avenue in Stanardsville. If you need transportation or meals delivered, please call 434-985-7716 (Greene County Transit) as soon as possible.
December 5
Somerset Christian Church, Rt. 20 in Somerset, will have its annual Christmas Bazaar, bake sale and Brunswick stew or chili lunch Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be handmade crafts, handmade goodies and tickets sold for a raffle drawing on that day for more than $500 in gift cards and handmade crafts. December 6
The Greene County Singers will present their holiday concerts on Dec. 6 at the Stanardsville Methodist Church in Court Square. Concerts will be at 3 and 7p.m. .
December 15
The annual singing of Handel’s “The Messiah” will take place this year on Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Orange. All singers and listeners are welcome. No rehearsal necessary. This year’s director is Allen Miller, minister of music at Orange Baptist Church accompanied by William Drake, organist, and a 15- piece string ensemble. A reception will follow the singing. Admission is free. A donation of nonperishable food would be greatly appreciated.

The Caring Companions will meet every second Tuesday at Westover United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.. This organization gives individual support to the elderly in their homes. If you have a loved one who could benefit from an hour or two a week visit from a friendly face or you are able to volunteer an hour or so a week to be present to someone else. Greene County’s Ministerial Association will again form its GCMA Church Fall Youth and Adult Coed Softball League, beginning in September. To field a team, you must have five girls and five guys, ages 16 and older. Swift Run Baptist Church is getting children connected to God; parents bring your children to join us for our exciting Children’s Church. Tuesday’s Table is a ministry providing a free meal to anyone in need, whether the need is economic, spiritual, fellowship and is held every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Stanardsville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in downtown Stanardsville. Food is provided and prepared by Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church, Mt. Vernon, Stanardsville, Mountain View and Westover United Methodist churches, Spring Hill Baptist Church, Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church and other service organizations.
