LIBRARY MATTERS: Summer Reading for Adults
Published: June 24, 2009
Summertime and the reading is easy. So curl up at the beach, on the porch swing , in a rocking chair, or on a towel in the back yard. With a new book - one that is a shiny and crisp and crying out: “Open me!“
And of course you can find the perfect new book at the Greene County Library. There is a new book section at the Library and on the library’s online catalog http://www.jmrl.org/catalog all new books are listed in a section called “New Arrivals.“ This link features books received in the last six weeks in 14 categories
But what if you want suggestions about what to read? In library lingo it’s called “Readers’ Advisory” and that information can be gotten on many different web locations.
Check the Adult Programs webpage http://www.jmrl.org/pr-adults.htm for a listing of what library book groups are reading. Also listed there are links to Staff Picks, Reader’s Corner, and the New York Times Best Sellers & Lists of Award Winning Books.
Want book reviews & summaries? When finding a title in the online catalog, click on the “Reviews & More” button at the top of the search results screen. The catalog webpage will link you to more information about your favorite authors and the Book Groups link will give you everything you want to know and more!
FictionConnection, an online database, is “Readers’ Advisory” at its best. You can use this resource to locate fiction suggestions based on a title that you already enjoy. Or, take advantage of the broad category search featuring: topic, genre, setting, character, location, and timeframe.
