Greene County Primary School wants to welcome all Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders to an evening activity call “Math Madness.“ This free workshop will provide ideas, games, and summer fun. Pizza and drink will be provided as well as take home activities. All Greene County K-2 students are welcome to attend with their parents. The workshop is on July 14 from 6-7pm. The Spotswood Trail Garden Club will meet Wednesday at 12:30pm at the Southern Grace on Route 29 across from Plow & Hearth. The program will be on water features and rejuvenating out summer gardens. We cordially invite all gardeners to join us.
Greene County TRIAD Workshop will be at 10am. Garry Rund, Stanardsville Post Master will be the guest speaker. He will speak on “mailing your items with Priority FLAT Rate products, philatelic-stamp collecting and mail fraud.” The meeting will be at the Greene County Senior Citizens Center in the Greene County Library Building in Stanardsville. 22 Main Street in Stanardsville. The annual Greene County Fair is back to the first week of August. Mark your calendar for Tuesday through Saturday, with the Demolition Derby and Community Yard Sale on August 1. Carnival rides, games, great food, great music, lots of fun! Begins 5:30pm nightly.

Join the Old Rag Master Naturalists, a chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program (VMN). The chapter is now accepting applications for the 2009 class, set to start Aug. 13. The goal is to produce crops of citizen volunteers to help further understand out natural environment. The training will be help at the Extension office in Madison County on Thursday s, 9am-12:30pm. and will be delivered in 12 classroom sessions and 4 field trips by professionals in the various fields. Fall Softball League: Greene County’s Ministerial Association will again offer its GCMA Church Fall Youth and Adult Coed Softball League. The season will begin September 13. Games will be on Sundays starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Youth Center in Ruckersville. To field a team, there must be 5 women and 5 men, ages 16 and older. Interested parties may email

Advertise your business at the Greene County Fair. Join the 30 businesses and organizations in the 125 ft tent at the fair this year. The Greene County Historical Society Museum, Court Square, is open on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. Come and see the exhibits and use the genealogy database on family research.
Through the summer, Greene’s Farmer Market, sponsored by the County Ruritans, will be offering fresh produce for sale, 8am-11am. Runs every Saturday during the summer. Farmers and gardeners are urged to bring their produce to the Greene County Technical Education Center parking lot, off U.S. Route 33 west, where they can set up shop at no charge. Nora Gillespie, Director of the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center, will be offering free small business counseling at the EDA office the first Wednesday of every month after the Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast. All Greene County students, 18 years and under, will be permitted to ride Greene County Transit at half price of our regular fare rate thru August 24, 2009. Students may schedule rides within the county from 7am-to 9:30pm each day Monday-Friday, and from 9am-3:30pm on Saturdays on $1.25 with door to door service. Please call 985-5205 to schedule transportation to your favorite sports events, library visits, 4-H events, or whatever your summer interest may be. Please call as early as possible that we may promptly meet your transportation needs.
During the month of July, the Greene County Food Bank is requesting donations of canned fruits. Donations can be dropped off at Social Services at 10009 Spotswood Trail (old Rt. 33) Stanardsville, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your tax-deductible money donations for the food bank can be mailed to the Womans Club of Greene County, PO Box 352, Stanardsville, VA 22973. Applications for the 2009-2010 school year are now being accepted for the Skyline CAP Head Start program in Greene County, open to preschool children three to five years old. Children must have turned at least three years of age by September 30, 2009. Those with special needs are encouraged to apply. Skyline CAP Head Start is a free program for income eligible families.
