Stanardsville man receives EPA water system award

Mark Beall, assistant maintenance manager at Woodberry Forest School, was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Virginia Department of Health for excellence in operating the school’s water system during a June 17, 2009, ceremony at the school. 
The EPA Professional Operator Excellence Award honors Beall for “outstanding practices in providing safe drinking water to the public and the students and staff members who are part of the Woodberry Forest School population.“ The award was presented by Bill Arguto, drinking water branch chief for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Mid-Atlantic Region. Dr. Karen Remley, state health commissioner with the Virginia Department of Health, also offered remarks.
Beall, a twenty-three-year Woodberry Forest employee who has operated the school’s water system since 1989, was selected to receive the award from among certified operators of small water systems in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The EPA’s mid-Atlantic region created the award in 2006 to highlight public water systems and to recognize outstanding performance by public water system plant operators.
Beall lives in Stanardsville with his wife, Janis.
