Book lovers have another reason to head to the post office this month. On April 9, former Chicago Post Office employee and renowned author Richard Wright (1908-1960) got his very own stamp. In a literary double-whammy, the artwork for the Wright stamp was created by children’s book author and illustrator Kadir Nelson, who recently won the Sibert Medal for his picture book We are the ship: the story of Negro League baseball.
Wright is best known for Native Son, one of the first modern novels to explore the impact of racism and slavery on American society, and his biography, Black Boy.
